New Deal Program
F.D.R was the one who created the New Deal
The New Deal was implemented under Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidency. The New Deal was a bunch of programs that were enacted to help the American economy recover and to help the people. This was suppose to help get the economy back on its feet. Also, it was suppose to help struggling people find jobs. It regulated big business to so that they could not in a sense bully people around. This was all done when, "He proposed, and Congress enacted, a sweeping program to bring recovery to business and agriculture, relief to the unemployed and to those in danger of losing farms and homes, and reform, especially through the establishment of the Tennessee Valley Authority"(Whitehouse.gov). The three R's as they are called were the basis of the New Deal and are recovery, relief, and reform. Many Acts and other regulations were put into place based on the three R's. Their were a lot of relief programs set in place to help industry's. These programs were meant to be a short term fix. The Banking Relief Act closed down every bank in America. Then they went under inspection and were aloud to reopen only if they were suited to. This made the banking industry much stronger and people started saving again, so overtime the banking industry got back on its feet. Also, programs gave relief to farmers in the form of money. This was used to buy them more land and to pay farmers to reduce their production of goods. Then the Federal Emergency Relief Federation was formed to help states out who had no money left. They gave money to help stimulate their own economy and to help them with jobs that needed to be done. Now their was heavy reform going on at the same time in the country. These reforms were aimed towards bettering the economy and helping people out. The best example of that was when The Tennessee Valley Authority was formed. This was formed to help the people out by building dams and completing other projects that had been put on hold. A system of thirty hydroelectric dams was built to prevent spring flooding. This provided power to all of the region which originally they did not have. Its ultimate goal was to redevelop and help the whole Tennessee Valley region. Although TVA could also be consider a relief and recovery group. The economy was also reformed so that the government could have more power over it. Like when the money standard was no longer based off of gold. Finally the recovery effort had begun. These efforts were generally long term programs that were suppose to help out over a long period of time. The Security's Exchange Commission was one of those programs. It was set up to watch the stock market and make sure no bad trading was going on. Such as insider trading. It helped the stock market for a very long time. Another recovery act The National Industrial Recovery Act. They stood for workers rights. "The NRA called for every business to abide by a temporary "blanket code," with a minimum wage of between 30 and 40 cents an hour, a maximum workweek of 35 to 40 hours a week, and the abolition of child labor"(Carson and Bonk). Also, people formed unions so that they could stick up for their workplace rights. However some people did not like this and brought it to the supreme court. The supreme court said it was unconstitutional along with several other parts of the New Deal. So the New Deal went away until F.D.R revised it and came up with a revised second New Deal which many more people liked and eventually led the U.S. out of The Great Depression.
The first and second 100 days
This shows us how big F.D.R's first one hundred days were
The famously known first one hundred days of a presidency is the best time for a president to pass laws, and to work. Generally this is when the most work and progress gets made. F.D.R's first one hundred days are considered the best by many people."His success in winning congressional approval became the stuff of legend and established FDR as the most effective president in dealing with Congress during the first 100 days"(Walsh). His goal was to start a plan to help the U.S. out of the depression. During his first one hundred days he passed several peaces of the New Deal. This was suppose to help America get out of the Great Depression. Congress passed 15 peaces of legislation during Roosevelt's first one hundred days. Some of these pieces are mentioned above. Many of these pieces helped the unemployed get jobs and helped communities get back on their feet. More so he held to his promise to the American people by taking action and trying to fix the economy. This was one of the most successful first one hundred days that a president has ever had. Also, F.D.R had what is called a second hundred days. This all started, "In 1935, FDR pushed through his second round of reforms, seeking to make many of the emergency measures of 1933 permanent while striking a more populist tone by overtly attacking big business and the rich"(Shmoop University). He also focused on relief for the public to and fought to make everyone equal. He passed more key pieces of legislation. These included many based on labor. these were used to make working conditions better and to set standards that company's could work for. Also, he worked on social security which gave workers a retirement and benefits when they stopped working. Many people did not retire during this era because they made so little they could not save it away for later usage Then, he struck down on the wealthy and made them pay more taxes than the average person because they made more. This shows that he made more needed advances during his second one hundred days to. Through both the first and second one hundred day periods during F.D.R's presidency, he made huge strides towards getting America out of the Great Depression. He was ultimately successful in doing so.
